A SINGLE USE ALARM July 23, 2010 R. MCCAIN (THE THIRD COAST WISCONSIN) Purchased this zircon alarm twice. Both times it sounded off correctly when in contact with water. If you are not home and the unit sits in water it will corroid quickly. Or if the unit sits in a damp area it will corroid and then the alarm fails. It is a cheaply made, low price unit. Use it once and throw it away for your own safety. We now have a different brand flood alarm unit. Same costs better made.
Does the job July 22, 2010 KR (Wausau, Wisconsin) So far no problems. Have 6 of these in various areas and I test them every couple of weeks after reading some of the reviews. All are still working and seem just fine. Its been a couple of months and I have not replaced a battery yet. So far, good buy for me.
Signal not loud enough July 15, 2010 Summerose57 (Lincoln, NE) This product works as described, but the volumn of the signal is low. I'm concerned whether or not I will hear it if it sounds.
Quieter than a Smoke alarm, but gets the job done. July 10, 2010 Joey The power of the alarm's speaker is dependent on how much power is left in the battery. Keep fresh batteries in the alarm, or you might not be able to hear it. That being said, I can hear the alarm from my bedroom 1.5 floors up (I live in a tri-level), but only when the house is quiet. I wish it would sound as loud as a smoke alarm, but it's not that bad.
Every home needs these July 7, 2010 F. Portell I own several of these and love the protection they provide. Anywhere you have anything with water in your house you should have them: bathroom, laundry, refrigerator, hot water tank, fish aquariums. I change the 9 volt battery once a year when I change my smoke detector batteries. Placing the alarm correctly (like next to a bath tub) is important for early detection.
