| Customer Reviews: Transfer Pump July 25, 2010 jlm This a a great tool. I use it to pump gasoline from a 5 Gal can into a boat. It will pump 5 Gal in about 3 1/2 minues--quite acceptable for my needs. I can't accurately speek to the battery life but I have pumped 12 5 Gal cans (60 Gal total) and the original batteries are going strong. The only reason I did not give this pump a 5 star rating is because of the delivery hose (from the pump to the end of the hose). The hose is a bit flimsey and the weight of the gasoline in the hose pulls the end out of the fill spout of the boat. I attached a wooden splint on a partial distance of the hose for additional support and now it works prefectly. Again a great little tool.
Works good most of the time June 8, 2010 M. Neahring (Metamora, IL) The on-off switch seems a little flaky at times, but for the most part this works great!
Original would not turn on - replacement worked fine. April 29, 2010 Johnny 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I put in new batteries and checked they were inserted correctly, but this pump would not turn on at all. I've seen other comments about bad switches in the Sierra Tools pumps and my symptoms seem to fit that but I can't be sure since it never got any power. I will be returning this. I could not judge how it would have been if it had worked.
Edited a couple weeks later - changed from 1 star to 3 - would have rated 4 stars if original had worked.
I got my replacement a few days ago (kudos to Amazon for easy replacement). The replacement works just as advertised. I hope it will keep working.
A few things to note that might not be obvious:
1. The inflexible shaft goes into the source reservoir so you need a direct line-of-sight into it. The longer flexible tube is the output.
2. The inflexible shaft has a max diameter about 1 and one-eight inch near its end so you will not be able to insert it into anything with an opening narrower than that.
3. It has a 14" length so you cannot drain a reservoir deeper than that.
4. There will be about one-half inch of liquid left that cannot be pumped out of the source reservoir. I suppose that couldn't be avoided but I would have liked to more completely drain the gas from my snow blower so I would feel save to store it inside in my basement over the summer.
