Needs improvement April 5, 2010 J. Mageean (Mountain View, CA USA) This should have been a 5 star product. It has the features I wanted but!! you must be careful not to roll it to fast or it will not accurately measure a distance. In the directions they tell you not to go over a certain speed but I do not get any where near that speed and it does not count accurately. The result is I must make several measurements of the same distance to insure it did not miss some counts. Another thing that is bothersome - it is not balanced. All the weight is on the side the handle attaches to. This means it is uncomfortable to use because your wrist is always in a slight strain to keep it from twisting away from the line of measurement. Other than that it is a nice machine
DigiRoller Plus II Digital Measuring Wheel November 9, 2008 Theresa Tarkington (TN) Calculated Industries 6425 DigiRoller Plus II Digital Measuring Wheel Works really really great, don't have to bend down to look at measurements
Poor performance-three units September 25, 2008 Richard P. Canon (Spartanburg, SC United States) I have had two DigiRoller Plus II units. I have had problems with both. The first malfunctioned while still under warranty. I return the unit (at my expense) for repair. That unit functions for about six or seven months, and then it failed to operate again. It was out of warranty, so I bought another one. That unit functioned for a little over a year and it failed to operate. I sent it back to Calculated Industries (CI) for repair. That cost me shipping plus about $70 for the repair. That unit has now failed to operate again. The problem is consistent. With new Duracell MN-2400 batteries installed, and the unit stored in my car for about 1 to 2 months, the unit will not power up because the batteries are dead. I find also that the batteries have corrosion on to the terminals. I have replaced the dead batteries with new Duracell MN-2400 batteries (as recommended by CI). The unit will power up and some of the buttons function, but the reset button does not, and the on off but will not function.
If this unit is intended for storage in heated and air-conditioned spaces, CI should advise us. If that is the case, I suspect very few would want to buy such a unit. I can honestly say that a $35 rolling measuring wheel will deliver the same measurement, repeatedly, with no batteries, no defects. I plan to go back to the RllerTape referenced above if CI does not replace the unit.
Product is good; seler sent it broken September 21, 2008 H. LiMarzi (Putnam County, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered two measuring wheels. The proce was good and the product is good, but the seller sent one that was not assembled properly. Rather than send a new one and a return box and shipping credit, they expected me to return the poorly assembled product at MY cost and THEN get a new one. I had to repair a new product before using.
I will not purchase from Hardware Sales Inc again, even if the choice costs me more money.
A must-have if you measure a lot July 12, 2007 Diogenes 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I use this in my work. I also own a Rolatape 300RP. There is no comparison in convenience and functionality--the DigiRoller wins hands down. It has lots of buttons and features (like figuring sq ft areas) that I don't use (that's what a CAD program is for). I just use these wheels to measure dimensions. Since the Digi's buttons are up on top, it's easy to zero it and reset it, without having to lift the wheel up like you do the Rolatape. Also the Digi's readout can be lighted with the touch of a button--I just used the Rolatape today, for the first time in years, and, measuring a darkened area, really hated to have to walk over to a light source to see my readout. BUT here's the rub--the reason I took my Rolatape to today's job was that it was in a city that is easier to get to by train than by car, and since convenience dictated I could only bring one wheel, it had to be the old Digiroller--because it folds up smaller for public transit, and is perfectly reliable, even if a bit of a nuisance to use. I own three DigiRoller 6425's--here's the story. The first one had its handle break after a couple of years, so I epoxied it, and it works fine except that the handle only telescopes partly down now. So I bought another one, just so I'd have one that was perfectly functional in every way. That one worked flawlessly for about 3 years, then one day its readout went blank, even though the batteries were good. The next day, it worked fine again, and continues to work, but I can't afford to have anything that's not reliable, so I bought another a couple of weeks ago. So, with what you might consider a reliability problem, how come I gave 5 stars to the DigiRoller? Because I wouldn't want to be without it. It's convenient, and more accurate than the Rolatape (it shows tenths of a foot in decimals). My customers and I deserve the accuracy and ease of use available from this unit. But the bottom line is, if you're a professional and need to measure things as part of your work, I recommend you buy this unit AND a Rolatape for backup to keep in your car trunk (or take on the train!), just in case!
