I replaced my 3.6V B&D rechargeable cordless screwdriver with this model. I hated having to keep it on the recharger and half the time I'd forget to plug it in so it wasn't charged when I needed it. After a few years it wouldn't hold a charge long enough to be useful for anything. I can keep this in a desk drawer and it's ready to use when I need it. I consider that a big improvement. It handles almost all my screwdriver needs. I usually use it with a magnetic bit holder similar to the Wera 893/4/1 K Universal Bit Holder with Strong Permanent Magnet. There's also adapters to use this with socket sets (eg Makita 785516-A Square Socket Adapter Hex Drive, 1/4-Inch & Makita 785517-A 3/8" Socket Adapter. The manual lock is sufficient for its intended use. For big jobs there's no substitute for an impact hammer.

Would I recommend this product NO NO NO
After removing it from the bubble case and giving it a whirl I realized this is a piece of junk and not up to B&D standards.
1) You have to have super strong fingers to activate the unit. It will only run if you push near the bottom of the buttons and even very hard.
2) You have to make sure you have the unit oriented properly or you will be pushing the reverse instead of forward all the time.
3) You can't return it the ANT place. If you bought from Amazon they would accept it with no questions.
Bottom line stay clear and buy a different model.

The title kinda says it all. I do low voltage data cable work and I use this product to detach and install internet jack face plates from the walls. This item is ALMOST perfect for me but I wish it had just a bit more torque and power. As it is, I know it'll never go too fast to crack a face plate but the screws still go in a bit too slow.
Upon reading several reviews on Amazon, this is the only Black and Decker item of this type I would buy since I now don't trust this company's rechargeable batteries. The AA's that these use is perfect for me since I already have my own rechargeables.

I have somehow ended up with 3 of these through moving several times. Got my first one back in the 90's, and it still works great. Being able to put new batteries in once it starts to slowdown is great when I have a lot of stuff to screw in (like rooms worth of Ikea funiture). It takes all the standard driver pieces from any multi-driver, so I use it instead of the little allen wrenches that come with ikea/saunders furniture.

I am a contractor but bought this for home use (of course) and anyone who has used one knows just how handy they are. This particular one was shockingly good. I used it quite a bit over 5 years and it just never stopped going. I actually prefer, in this instance, the fact that it takes ordinary AA batteries (4) because the rechargable packs don't last and they are too expensive. Anyways, if u want to, of course u hv the option of using rechargable AA.
