[UPDATE 7-31-09: Still working great. I don't use this gun as often as my other one (Grizzly deep stapler) but when I need to get into a tight spot this is the one to use. It will fit where most pneumatic staple guns won't. It will handle several sizes of staples but has trouble fully setting the longer ones in hardwood. Still it is a great staple gun and well worth the money. I keep it handy just for the tight jobs. (Works great for putting up rabbit wire!)]
This is one major staple shooting bargain. Two days and several sticks of 1 in and 5/8 in staples I have had no jams or misfires. The only problem I had was the bump fire mode quit working after the first hour. The gun continues to work perfectly in single fire mode. (Grizzly is replacing the gun and reimbursing the shipping costs.)
good things:
Light weight. This is very important when hanging insulation overhead.
Fast.
Efficient. Does not need a lot of air to work.
Comfortable. The grip is not contoured but is still easy to hold onto.
Inexpensive. Works just like more expensive guns.
Has a switch for bump mode. (Which worked very well for a little while.)
It comes with a simple but functional case. (And a cheap oil bottle that I suggest you toss and replace with a small metal can of WD machine oil which won't leak all over the place.)
not so good things:
Can't think of anything really bad. I guess you could say it is sort of ugly. The fit and finish is not as spiffy as on a DeWalt or Hitachi. But of course it is about a third of the cost of either of those. The bump mode switch quit working on my unit, but this is the only time I have ever had something go wrong with a Grizzly product. ( I will update this review when the replacement gun arrives.)
overall:
The gun works for all the basics. If you are looking for a good quality gun then this is a very economical choice. I will update this review once the replacement gun arrives and again after I have had a chance to use it over an extended period.
UPDATE: Received a replacement gun from Grizzly a couple of days ago. The new one works very well. No problems whatsoever. This unit is a little smaller than the deep stapler and will get in places the larger gun will not.
