Remove carpeting using the broad spectrum scraping blade then let the sanding system take over to polish those hard-to-reach spaces. High-Frequency Oscillation for Smooth, Safe Precision For the safest and most accurate work, the RK5102K features super high-frequency oscillation technology. This means that instead of rotating, it makes up to 20,000 back-and-forth oscillations per minute for ultra smooth, efficient results. Because there are no fast-spinning parts or alternating blades, there are no threats of kickback. Thanks to its advanced design, the RK5102K cuts only hard materials when fitted with a blade attachment. This way, the tool easily cuts heavy-duty materials, while keeping the user's hands and fingers safe. The RK5102K can cut wood, thin metals, fiberglass, masonry, plastic, carpet and flooring, cement board, and even vinyl siding. High Sanding Capacity with Low Dust Levels For sanding jobs, this tool requires very little downward pressure and delivers great accuracy. And its slim body enhances your sanding capabilities, allowing you to work on edging and corners that are often not possible to reach with other tools. Plus, it affords you quick and easy clean-up, throwing a very low level of dust whether you're sanding, cutting, or scraping. Easy Handling with Lightweight Frame and Soft Grip The RK5102K has magnesium alloy gear housing, making it lightweight enough for extended use and rugged enough for long-term durability. Exceeded most expectaions. July 24, 2010 Dave W Every feature worked great, better than expected...except the scrapper. That feature didn't work as well as I would like.
Not a good tool for several reasons... July 13, 2010 M. Nissley (Chicago) First impression: not bad. Seems solid and the motor runs evenly. It comes with no instructions for use, other than crude illustrations which only indicate the most obvious concepts, like changing attachments. It is a pain to use the allen wrench to change attachments, but OK no big deal if the thing works. It does not. First job: remove some molding with the "precision wood blade." Results were mixed at best. It vibrated around in the wood and it smoked like crazy, even with just a tiny amount of pressure. It was burning the wood more than cutting. Half way through I used I circular saw to do the main cutting and used the "SC" for the corners. Not too impressed at this point. Second job: sanding. At first it was OK. It did remove material, but the loop pattern in the wood was far more obvious than my $60 Porter Cable orbital sander, and I wondered how I'd get the curly patterns out of the wood later. After about 45 minutes of light/moderate sanding the oscillation of the pad suddenly stopped entirely. I tried to remove the triangular sanding attachment to see what was wrong but the metal housing was so INCREDIBLY HOT I couldn't hold it. It was hotter than any hand power tool I've ever used. Not a good sign for a motor. The "male" nut that the pad mounting sits on had deformed the "female" end of the pad so badly it was utterly useless. So, the pad that holds the sandpaper was shot after sanding half of a door. At that point I knew it was a return, but to try to finish the job I switched to the "finger sanding pad." Again, bad looping patterns in the wood. I gave up with this tool after less than three hours total use. When I went to remove the sanding pad from the finger sanding attachment, the top 1/4 inch of Velcro from the pad peeled off, so sanding was now totally impossible with this tool after the first job. I only used two pieces of sandpaper: one regular and one "finger" and sanding was 100% impossible. It comes with dozens of sheets of paper, but why? I completed the job with my normal tools, and that is what you will do if you buy this product.
Pros: None.
Cons: Incredibly high heat; attachments fail where they mount to the tool; cheap accessories; you wish you bought the Fein or maybe all these tools are too good to be true.
Left Black Marks on Shower Tile June 19, 2010 D. Jimenez I am giving the Sonicrafter a 3 Star at this point. My final review could go higher or lower depending on any help from Rockwell on repairing black marks on the porcelain tile in my shower. I used the scraper tool to remove caulking from a shower enclosure and almost every place the blade touched the tile, it left a black mark. I used a medium speed (3)and a very light touch. The caulking came off like a hot knife through butter. However, I tried soft scrub, Clorox Clean Up, Magic Eraser, and mineral spirits and nothing took off any of the black marks. The surface of the tile isn't gouged, so the stain appears to be on the surface. I just hope that the marks aren't "burnt" into the surface. Also, Rockwell support isn't open on the weekends when us do it yourselfers are using the tool. I read the instruction manual and there isn't any warning on this and I have seen ads doing this exact same thing.
Great, Useful Tool May 31, 2010 R. Merck (Dallas, Texas, USA) The product is heavy duty and strong, as advertized, with all the supplied accessories working as promised.

Rockwell RK5102K Sonicrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit
I gave this tool one star because zero stars was not available.
I have purchased two Sonicrafters, RK5102K, from Amazon.com. I purchased and returned them in sequence, trying to get one that worked. They were each the most expensive model, $179.99.
Both Sonicrafters had the same problem: The hex bolt would jar loose immediately and allow the attachment to fall to the floor.
I am 6' 4" tall, weighing 290. I believe that I am strong enough to tighten the hex bolt. I was afraid that if I forced the hex bolt to be any tighter, I would cam it out, that is, strip the threads of the bolt.
If the machine will not hold any accessories, it is worthless.
I have a woodworking shop with a huge array of tools, most of them purchased from Amazon.com. which has been terrific to work with. But, this Sonicrafter is totally unacceptable.
Amazon.com graciously allowed me to return both Sonicrafter kits and refunded my money. Minus $36.00, of course. Fair enough. I am just glad to be rid of the thing.
