Fein Multitool July 25, 2010 Steve Larson (Christmas, Florida) This is a very nice tool. I needed to cut the bottoms off 7 door jambs to accommodate wood flooring. It is the perfect tool for that part of a project. It came highly reccommended by a friend who had tried the Dremmel & Pockwell versions, and it didn't disappoint.
Excellent tool July 16, 2010 P.T. I am a finish carpentry contractor with over 30 years experience. The Fein (fine) tool, as we call it on the job is one of the truly great tool ideas I've ever seen. For those tasks it is suited for, well, nothing else will do. Every contrator I work with has one. One fellow bought a Dremel tool which is similar, not nearly as good a tool. One thing, all the special blades that come in the kits, I've never had a reason to use them. A couple of guys that purchased the Fein tool when they first came out only as kits, despite the serious price, still have unused speciality blades in the box. Buy the basic tool, buy lots of metal/wood blades and get some work done.
Ehh. Nothing spectacular July 16, 2010 Kaps The tool is nothing crazy like the television suggests.
Perfect for small jobs. When you try and push the machine to the edge, you can feel it start to get a bit hot.
In addition, when you put the blade on the machine, you need to make sure it stays in the slot and does not move when you are locking the blade in. I didn't realize this and cracked one of the blades (they are not cheap either).
I dont think I would buy again.
Can't do without it! July 12, 2010 Claude H. Post Jr. (Saugerties, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you have read my other reviews here you would already know I am a building contractor. I resisted buying this tool for a few years because of the cost. You can buy a decent
slide compound miter saw for a little more, but would that miter saw give you clean cuts on door trim 1/2" off the floor?
I had some outside cornice (trim) work to do, and had bad sections to cut out and replace without harming the finish on the good stuff.
This tool did that and more. I do quite a bit of wood flooring and it does a real nice job of cutting door trim up. Just lay a piece of the new flooring on the floor, then rest the blade right on the top of it and plunge cut in. It is that easy!
There are other brands out there for a lot less money, but none of them work half as well or have half the power of the Fein Saw!
more than a woman July 11, 2010 doc I hedged forever before purchasing this tool. Even bought and returned the harbor freight version. Purchased it for one job really, to cut existing baseboards in place, 2 to be exact. I have now owned it 6 months and covet this tool more than my sawsall. I have used it as a jambsaw, to remove grout, to sand irregular moldings, to trim endless nails and pieces of wood not accessable with any other method. I love it and continually sing its praises. Just accepted a job spicing in about 7 rotted jambs and will save a good day with this tool. The quick change and blade configuration very usefull. Cost of blades not bad if you research the after-market sources tho they last longer than I expected. I actually am reluctant to show off to much as I dont want to end up lending it out. Love it, I may just go out to van right now and cuddle up.
